How to discover music on ChartFM

Find new artists, music fans and musical trends

Why discover music through ChartFM?

Streaming platforms recommend songs based on algorithms that analyze your playback history. The result is often an echo chamber: you discover more of the same, rarely something that truly surprises you.

ChartFM offers an alternative based on real people. By following music fans with taste similar to yours, you discover songs through someone who deliberately chose to include them in their weekly list, not because an algorithm recommended them, but because they genuinely valued them.

This form of discovery is slower, but richer. The songs you find through ChartFM tend to be choices with more context and meaning behind them.

Using the Discover page

The Discover page is ChartFM's central discovery hub. Access it from the sidebar to see featured music fans of the week, artist and song rankings, and shortcuts to explore by genre.

The rankings shown on Discover are updated weekly and reflect the charts published by the community during that period. Artists who appear on multiple different users' charts naturally rise in the ranking.

Explore the available tabs: the Artists tab shows who's growing fastest on the platform. The Songs tab shows the tracks with the most presence on charts that week.

Following music fans

The most efficient way to discover music on ChartFM is to follow music fans whose taste you already admire. When they publish new weekly charts, you get those updates in your feed.

To find good music fans, explore Discover and see who's featured. Click a music fan's profile to see their chart history, which artists they champion most, and how their taste compares to yours.

You can also discover music fans through communities. Active members of communities you spend time in tend to have taste aligned with yours, making them natural candidates to follow.

Exploring by genre

On Discover, you can filter artists and songs by genre. Available genres include Pop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Sertanejo, R&B/Soul, Indie/Alt, Funk, Electronic and K-Pop, among others.

Each genre page shows the artists and songs most charted within that style by ChartFM users. It's a way to see what's trending within a specific niche, without being influenced by what dominates the overall ranking.

If you're a fan of a more specific style, genre pages are especially useful for discovering artists that mainstream media rarely highlights but that have a dedicated fan base on the platform.

Using the Global 100 as a discovery tool

The Global 100 isn't just for following the ranking, it's also an excellent discovery tool. Songs that appear on the ranking were put there by multiple different users, which indicates genuine relevance.

Pay special attention to entries marked as 'new' or 'return'. Debuts on the ranking often indicate artists or songs that are quickly gaining traction within the community, potential discoveries before they become widely known.

Also browse the history of previous weeks. Watching how an artist grew on the ranking over months reveals interesting trajectories and helps you understand which artists have solid fan bases versus those who just had a viral moment.

Tip: explore artist profiles

Every artist on ChartFM has a profile page with information about their discography, history of appearances on the global ranking and album reviews made by the community. Visiting the profile of an artist you just discovered is a good way to quickly understand how the community perceives them.

The profile page also shows which users have charted that artist most, which can help you find music fans with taste similar to yours to follow.
