Official Top 50 Rock playlist

Rock, punk, emo, grunge, metal and related styles charted by the community

Top 50 Rock on ChartFM covers rock and metal in the broad sense of the tag list: punk, emo, grunge, metal subgenres and adjacent labels defined in the chart code. It is not a “best rock band” vote; it is the sum of main weekly charts after the filter.

The official Spotify playlist is that Top 50 in listening order. The ID stays; the tracks change with the published week.

Find the list on the official profile https://open.spotify.com/user/31cltms7ljqqkaktslykzmyvgxqu. Follow the profile and share the playlist so the community's rock ranking stays one tap away.

How the Rock filter decides

Track tags first; artist tags if the track is empty; out of the genre ranking if both are missing. The accepted list includes the taxonomy's rock and metal core, plus extras such as latin rock, stoner metal, black metal and industrial rock, among others.

The match is exact. “Sounds like rock” is not enough. A tag off the list does not enter. That keeps the ranking reproducible and also leaves gaps when the catalogue is incomplete.

Rock and Alternative side by side

Alternative rock, shoegaze and several indie labels cross with Top 50 Alternative. Some of those also sit near the Rock universe. When the tag is on both lists, the track scores on both charts with the same points.

On the playlist, that can create overlap with the Alternative list the same week. Listen to Rock when you want the Rock filter's result; open Alternative when you want the other slice.

Points and week sensitivity

The points scale per position matches the Global 100. In weeks with few rock-heavy charts, Top 50 Rock reacts strongly to a handful of active charts. In dense weeks, climbing a position needs more community agreement.

The playlist does not smooth that. It shows the raw order of the syncable Top 50.

Sync and limits

After the weekly genre snapshot, the official sync replaces the fixed playlist's tracks and updates the title with the week label. Tracks without a Spotify URI stay only on the ChartFM page.

The /global/genre/rock page remains the place for points, movement status and history. The playlist is the listening shortcut.

How to feed Top 50 Rock

Publish your main weekly chart. Tracks with accepted Rock tags already count. There is no separate form and no “submit to Rock” badge.

If you feel the community's rock is under-represented on the playlist, the realistic path is more published charts with those tracks and correct catalogue tags, not a request for the playlist to “pull” names by hand.

Official profile

Top 50 Rock and the other official playlists live at https://open.spotify.com/user/31cltms7ljqqkaktslykzmyvgxqu. Follow the profile and share the playlist: hear the week's ranking and, if you want the detail, open the genre page on ChartFM.

When the new edition lands, the same link stays valid. Save the playlist once and return after the weekly publish instead of hunting a new address.

Frequently asked questions

Does metal have its own Top 50?
No. Metal enters Top 50 Rock through this chart's tag list.
Do daily rock charts count?
Not on the global genre ranking. Only the main weekly chart.
Why is a famous rock track missing from the list?
Either it was not charted enough that week, an eligible tag is missing, or a Spotify ID is missing for sync. Check the genre page before assuming a playlist error.
Does the order change mid measured week?
The public playlist follows the published and synced genre ranking edition, not every individual chart edit during the week.
Where do I see older history?
On /global/genre/rock. The Spotify playlist points to the latest synced edition.
